Angry CCCU members still hoping to stop branch closures

A group of members trying to stop Coastal Community Credit Union from closing branches in small towns thinks it has the ear of the Board after the annual general meeting.

The Credit Union announced recently it wants to close branches in Sointula, Alert Bay and Cortes Island.

Bruce Burrows of Sointula is one of the people who managed to get a resolution on the floor at Wednesday night’s AGM in Nanaimo.  It calls on the Board to maintain service levels and jobs in those communities.

Credit Union officials are promising to review the resolution, but they don’t see it as binding.

Burrows says the Board did agree to keep working with people affected by the branch closures.
