Baby recovering after stroller hit by car in Nanaimo

A six-month-old baby is recovering in hospital after a car ran a red light and hit a stroller. It happened on Tuesday, April 15 around 11:30am. Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says a mother was pushing the baby stroller across a crosswalk on Terminal Avenue when it was struck by the car.

O’Brien says the baby is spending the night at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for observation. The mother got a few cuts and scratches but is otherwise okay. He says it’s amazing that several bystanders were able to lift the car to free the trapped baby.

Charges are pending against the driver.
