City Council wants new study on Colliery Dams

The Colliery Dam Park Preservation Society is calling it a win.
Nanaimo City Council has rejected the idea of starting design work and a search for companies to upgrade the tops or spillways of the dams.
Those were the main options that came out of a study by the engineering firm Golder Associates.
Instead, Council voted 8-1 to order a new report looking at how the dams would actually react in the event of a big flood.
That’s exactly what the Society’s Jeff Solomon was hoping for.
The new study could come with a price tag in the range of $200,000.
