Gibsons Chamber hoping to launch updated ferry commuter survey

The Gibsons Chamber of Commerce wants to find out more about who’s using BC Ferries to commute from the Sunshine Coast to the Lower Mainland for work.
The last survey of ferry commuters was in 2009.
Chamber Executive Director Donna McMahon says based on that survey, and the federal government’s National Household Survey from 2011, anywhere from 10 to 12 per cent of Gibsons area residents are ferry commuters.
McMahon says one challenge they’re facing is trying to find out how many people are leaving the Sunshine Coast because it’s no longer cost-effective, or practical to commute to the Lower Mainland.

McMahon says they’re looking at several ideas to get that information, including having realtors ask clients why they’re putting their houses up for sale.
