Gibsons OCP update clears first reading

Gibsons is ready to move forward with an Official Community Plan update that, in many ways, has been overshadowed by the debate over the George Hotel proposal.
The prospect of a large waterfront development had some in the public and on a volunteer steering committee suggesting the section on the Harbour Area needs to be more specific on size and character.
But Town staff say they don’t have the time or budget to look at major changes.
Councillor Dan Bouman says regardless of the scope of the update, there isn’t enough agreement yet to take it to the next stage.
Councillor Gerry Tretick voted in favour of giving the current draft first reading
Additions to the OCP include measures to protect the aquifer that supplies 75 per cent of the Town’s drinking water.
