Pair tired, but feeling satisfied, after Georgia Strait swim for charity

A couple of young women are resting up after an attempt to swim across Georgia Strait.
Caryn Dooner and Kaylynn Purdy (seen above, picture courtesy Waves4Women) made the swim to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.  The pair are university students who’ve know each other since high school in Victoria, and they’ve been training since late last year for the 35km swim from Sechelt to Nanaimo.
After weather conditions forced them to postpone things on Saturday, they hit the water early Sunday morning.
Dooner says they ran into trouble at Neck Point off Nanaimo, where strong currents and hypothermia forced them to stop just shy of their goal.
Dooner and Purdy have so far raised about 5-thousand dollars.  And you can still contribute at waves4women.blogspot.ca

There’s also another Georgia Strait swim in the works for this summer.  Rachel Schoeler of the Fraser Riverkeepers says she’ll try to do it, solo, in early August going from Neck Point to Sechelt.
