SCRD Directors hear what's up in the Roberts Creek Study Forest

Directors at the Sunshine Coast Regional District got a quick lesson this week in what forestry researchers have learned over a couple of decades of work in the Roberts Creek area.

Roderick Negrave heads up the Coast Area Research Section for the Ministry of Forests, which includes the Roberts Creek Study Forest.

He says they’re not just studying trees. There’s also the Coast Research Experimental Arthropod Project, or CREAP, which is looking at some of the smallest forest dwellers, like snails, worms and ants.

Negrave also says the work in the Study Forest has led to some improvements in how trees are harvested on the Sunshine Coast, both in terms of environmental protection and logging company operations.

The Ministry will also be working on future research project with the Sunshine Coast Community Forest, which has tenure in the same area.
