Sechelt Council backing Infrastructure Renewal Reserve Fund, but backing away from a special levy (for now)

Councillors in Sechelt aren’t ready just yet to move ahead with a special levy to build an Infrastructure Renewal Reserve Fund.

They voted at committee yesterday to set up the fund, starting with money from gas taxes and the province’s small community grant.

But when it came to the 91 dollar levy, there wasn’t any support.

Most councillors, including Darnelda Siegers, say they want to see what comes out of an assessment of roads and storm sewers first.

But, Alice Lutes says she doesn’t see the need for an extra levy at all.

District staff say they expect to have that road and storm sewer assessment done in the next 4 to 6 months.
