Sunshine Coast cold weather shelter boosting staff for coming season

The Sunshine Coast’s cold weather homeless shelter is getting ready to open for another season.

Last year the shelter was able to open every night in the late fall and winter, and it’s expected to do the same this season, with three on staff, including an outreach worker.

Matt Thomson is the coordinator with the Sunshine Coast Housing Committee.  He says having the extra people helping, especially the outreach worker, will increase the chances of finding housing for the shelter’s clients.

The seasonal shelter is the only one on the Sunshine Coast right now.

Thomson says with the completion of a recent study work on setting up a permanent shelter is heading in the right direction, but it’s likely still 2 to 4 years away.
