Talks continue, and so do the rallies as students out of school for third week

Veteran mediator Vince Ready has been meeting all weekend with the BC Teachers Federation and the Public School Employers Association, but it’s not clear if we’re any closer to a deal to end the teachers strike.
Ready adjourned the session around 2 this morning and he says they’ll get back to work later today, but there’s no firm time.  Yesterday was spent mostly moving between the two groups, but there was one face-to-face meeting.
Even if there is a deal at some point this week, it’s not likely kids could be back in classes any earlier than Monday, because School Districts and teachers would need time to get ready.
And as the talks continue, so do the rallies.

On Friday parents, teachers and students in Nanaimo went from NDSS to John Barsby banging pots and pans, Sunday hundreds gathered in downtown Vancouver, and Monday there’s a march in Gibsons.
Patty Metropolis is organizing the “Strike March for SD46 Families”.  She says the uncertainty is really starting to worry parents.
Metropolis says they’re asking people to meet at 1pm at Elphinstone Secondary, and from there they’ll make their way through upper Gibsons.
