Nanaimo Council has approved the purchase of two pieces of Linley Valley property — 5600 Vanderneuk Road and 3842 Stronach Drive — for $2-million.
The properties are the last purchases in the City’s plan to protect 164 hectares (including the existing parks) of land in the Valley. The total price tag is $5.6-million.
Real Estate Manager Bill Corsan says despite some criticisms they overpaid, the City got good bang for their buck.
City Manager Ted Swabey also says they’ll be saving money in the long run, because the City won’t have to pay to build and maintain roads or other infrastructure like they would for a development.
