Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’re holding a Campbell River man in custody after an incident on the weekend.
Police say a vehicle hit a hydro pole on Sechelt Inlet Road around 10 O’clock Saturday night, shearing off the pole and knocking out power to hundreds of people.
The driver tried to get away, but RCMP caught up with him.
The 40 year old Campbell River man was arrested for impaired driving and failing to stay at the scene of an accident.
RCMP also say his license was already suspended because of several previous charges for impaired driving and driving without a license.
RCMP also say they’ve turned a case of spilled fish guts over to the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch.
Police had several calls Saturday about a smelly, slippery substance coating the surface of Highway 101 between Pender Harbour and Sechelt.  Police say they managed to trace it to a specific truck, and the company confirmed they were hauling a load of fish remains for composting when it spilled.
The resulting stench caused a buzz on social media, with several people claiming it made them feel sick and they had to give their cars a thorough washing after driving through the fish offal.
And, RCMP are investigating another case of impaired boating on the Sunshine Coast.
They say it happened last Thursday. Police got a complaint from the Garden Bay area of Pender Harbour about a boat apparently drifting around, bumping into other boats moored at the marina. The witness told RCMP the man aboard seem to be having trouble managing the anchor.
Police called in RCM SAR and boarded the boat. They say the man was “clearly intoxicated”.
RCMP say it doesn’t seem that any of the other boats were damaged, and they’re continuing the investigation.
